I graduated from the University of Alabama with a B.A. degree in Special Education. I furthered my education at Cumberland School of Law, receiving my Juris Doctorate degree. After graduation from Cumberland, I worked as an Alternative Sentencing Advocate at the Jefferson County Alternative Sentence Project, then practiced law with 2 different private firms in Gadsden, Alabama. After my second child was born, I decided that teaching would allow me to have more time with my children. I planned on teaching for a few years and then going back into the practice of law. However, I enjoyed teaching so much that I never stopped. This is my 22nd year working as a special education teacher!
Prior to coming to Shades Valley High School, I taught at the Etowah County Preschool, Rainbow Middle School and Hokes Bluff High School. I was honored in 2012 when I worked at the Shades Valley Technical School with the Second Mile Teacher award. However, the biggest honor is when I see the progress my students are making and they see in themselves that they are capable of doing so much more than they imagined!
