She traveled as a NAEA delegate to India with other art teachers in 2012 to exchange with other art educators and students in India and brought these experiences, stories and images back in the classroom to share with students including art projects in Indian printmaking, painting and drawing techniques. She was selected as a travel fellowship recipient in 2016 to serve as a global ambassador as part of the State Dept. of Education Teachers for Global Classrooms (TGC) Program and plans to share this experience with students and colleagues in 2017 to integrate more opportunities to collaborate with students and teachers internationally.
Mrs. Ritchey worked as an adjunct instructor teaching painting and drawing classes at the University of Montevallo for 2 years prior to working at Shades Valley High School. She worked also at Gallery 312 in Chicago as an exhibit preparator (installing art shows) while taking printmaking and painting courses at Art Institute of Chicago and as Exhibit Preparator at CWU Sarah Spurgeon Gallery while in Graduate school at Central Washington University. She worked in theater set design at Birmingham Southern College as part of work study experience. In Cortona, Italy she received a travel stipend working as a printmaking teacher assistant while studying art history and painting in Italy. She has driven three cross country road trips to and from Birmingham to the Pacific Northwest, exploring National Parks along the way including the Grand Canyon, Tetons, Yellowstone National Park, Mt. Rainier and the Cascade Mountains and enjoys summer adventures with her family--biking/camping the Chief LaDiega Silver Comet trail from Anniston, AL to Atlanta, GA and kayaking on the Cahaba River are two of her favorites. Much of her personal artwork is derived from nature and personal photographs taken outdoors. The painting behind Ms. Ritchey is titled "Nature Within."
