I grew up in the Birmingham area, graduating from Huffman High School. I've been teaching for 30 years. I've always worked with special education students. About 16 years ago, I moved into a position where I work with students on the transition from school to work. I'm able to provide a variety of transition-related activities and small group instruction. When I'm not teaching, I like to read, knit, and just fiddle around the house.
I currently work with special education students on preparing for the transition from school to work. I love being part of the process that takes our students from high school into the world of college or work.
One of the most important things I do is actually take students to work as unpaid interns during the school day. We go to area businesses that have agreed to partner with the school. Students learn good general work habits and also have a chance to try out different types of jobs.
